Superlist 1.0 Launch

A fast-paced, rhythm-driven announcement for the public release of the design-forward task manager.

What Superlist shipped

Superlist 1.0 marked the official public release of the highly anticipated task manager built by the original creators of Wunderlist. It positioned itself as the definitive bridge between personal and professional productivity, wrapping standard task management in a highly tactile, design-forward interface.

The launch film needed to communicate this dual nature quickly. At just 34 seconds, the video relies on speed and rhythm to make a utility app feel dynamic, proving that task management doesn't have to look sterile.

How the motion works

The edit is entirely rhythm-driven. By aggressively cutting on the beat, the motion design establishes an immediate, driving cadence. This syncs UI reveals and text animations with the percussion, mapping the visual structure directly to the audio track to create a sense of urgency and precision.

Kinetic typography acts as the primary narrative vehicle. Large, high-contrast type fills the frame, scaling and shifting to bridge the gaps between interface shots. This typographic layer prevents the viewer from getting bogged down in granular UI details, keeping the focus on the product's overarching value propositions.

When the UI is shown, it is treated with distinct physical weight. Subtle overshoot on list items, checkboxes, and toggles gives the digital interface a satisfying, mechanical snap. Instead of relying on sweeping camera moves, the film utilizes hard cuts between macro interactions and wide layout views, maintaining momentum while keeping the product grounded and legible.

What to steal from it

  • Let a strong percussive audio track dictate the pacing and structure of your edit.
  • Use oversized kinetic typography to deliver messaging efficiently without relying on voiceover.
  • Apply subtle overshoot to UI components to simulate physical weight and mechanical satisfaction.
  • Rely on hard cuts between macro and wide UI shots to maintain momentum without disorienting the viewer.
