Introducing Skills

Framer introduces Skills, allowing users to save custom instructions and references to guide the AI Agent's design output.

What Framer shipped

Framer expands its AI capabilities with Skills, a feature that allows users to teach the Framer Agent specific workflows. By saving instructions for design systems, writing styles, and CMS structures, teams can standardize AI-generated outputs across their projects.

The thirty-second announcement film is built for speed. It communicates a complex conceptual feature—training an AI model on localized design rules—through rapid, literal UI demonstrations rather than abstract metaphors.

How the motion works

The film relies on an aggressive rhythm of hard cuts to move through the interface. Instead of panning across the canvas, the camera uses a sharp punch-in to isolate the Agent input field. This directs the viewer's eye immediately to the new functionality without the distraction of the surrounding application chrome.

To illustrate the core mechanic, the motion design treats text input as a primary visual element. Kinetic typography simulates the user typing out instructions and referencing specific @pages and @components. The typing animation is heavily accelerated, bypassing realistic pacing to maintain the momentum of the thirty-second edit.

When the Agent applies a Skill, the resulting canvas updates are animated using a tight stagger. New components and stylistic changes snap into place with Framer's signature spring easing—fast entry, slight overshoot, and immediate settling. This makes the AI's generation process feel structured and highly responsive.

By keeping the camera locked on the interplay between the prompt box and the canvas, the film establishes a clear cause-and-effect loop. The motion design strips away cursor movements and extraneous UI states, focusing entirely on the relationship between the saved Skill and the final design output.

What to steal from it

  • Use a sharp punch-in to isolate new features within complex interfaces, eliminating the need for slow camera drifts.
  • Accelerate typing animations in prompt-based UI demonstrations to prioritize pacing over realism.
  • Animate AI-generated results with a rapid stagger to make the output feel structured and intentional.
  • Remove cursor movements from UI sequences when the relationship between input and output is direct enough to stand alone.
