Hold time
Hold time is the duration a finished composition remains on screen before the next motion begins. It is not dead time when the camera drifts or the music carries it; it is the space the viewer needs to understand the claim.
When to use it
Use it after dense text, proof numbers, product UI, or a logo lockup. Hold just long enough for comprehension, then move.
Common mistakes
No holds at all; holding a static frame with no drift; holding long enough that the energy drains out.
How Impractical uses it
Impractical has a written zero-dead-air rule: held shots keep a subtle push or drift, and anything held too long is flagged in review.
