Pattern interrupt
A pattern interrupt deliberately changes the visual rhythm: quiet to loud, light to dark, close-up to wide, text to UI. It resets attention and makes the next beat feel important.
When to use it
Use it before the reveal, after a repeated sequence, or when a section has become predictable.
Common mistakes
Interrupting with no story reason; using random effects as noise; breaking rhythm so often the film has no rhythm left.
How Impractical uses it
Impractical's launch structure uses pattern interrupts to move from hook to pain to reveal. The system can cut violent after opening calm because the beat sheet knows where the turn belongs.
