Wipe transition

A wipe transition replaces one shot with another using a moving edge. It is more visible than a hard cut and more graphic than a fade, so it should be motivated by direction, color, or layout.

When to use it

Use it between sections that share a visual direction: left-to-right flow, top-down stack, or panel-to-panel movement.

Common mistakes

Using wipes as default decoration; wiping slowly; choosing a direction that fights the composition.

Impractical supports full-frame wipe transitions with explicit directions. That lets a director connect scenes while preserving the beat grid.
